About the Project

Project Developed for Google UX Design Specialization Program.

The Dream Bakery is a bakery that had the dream of serving its customers from anywhere in the city, this project is about the development of an application with the objective of being able to order meals, reserve orders and be able to pick up from any bakery franchise.

Challenges

The challenges lie in creating new features in a cohesive and intuitive way so that users can adapt to them gradually, but without losing the initiative of being just a bakery.

1. Create a pick-up function at the nearest bakery.

2. Create a table reservation function.

3. Create a delivery tracking function.

4. Create a cohesive application.

Research

In this project, some research was carried out with users and potential users of the bakery's new features. It started with a briefing, qualitative research, benchmarking, construction of personas. After the research, several interaction tests were carried out to understand how users and potential users would use the new proposed features.

Affinity Map

Insights:

  • Preference for a quick, clear process with an intuitive interface.

  • Easy contact for assistance in case of issues with orders or reservations.

  • Option to add special requests, such as dietary preferences.

Benchmarking

Benchmarking was conducted on 3 local apps that have some significance to the topic and new functions, 2 apps were from local bakeries, and 1 app was researched regarding the function of picking up at a bakery.

The bakery apps, Villa Sucree and Confeitaria Leve Sabor, was observed how the recurring functions of login, menu, item description, items sold, shopping cart were presented, and how intuitive and self-explanatory the user's journey through the app was.

The other app studied, Food to Save, was observed the function of choosing a bakery to pick up the order. In the case of the Dream Bakery, this function will be restricted to franchises of the bakery itself. However, for the purpose of the study, the app studied has the function of retrieving packages of bread that were not sold during the day, with the aim of not wasting food.

User Journey

I built 3 user journeys based on the 3 new features that will be tested later, this helps to map how the user can interact with the prototype.

Iteration Tests

Interaction tests were important resources for building the prototype. Some questions raised, such as "What do users really need?" and "Who is the product really for?", were partially answered by seeing users use the proposal. Some users had difficulty understanding where to find and how to use the "pick up at the nearest bakery" function, which was the fuel for new insights.

Conclusion

This project was developed during the Google UX Design Specialization Program, it was designed to be as complete as possible following all the steps of the UX Design process until the final delivery of an application, my chosen theme was coffee shop but I ended up basing it on local alternatives in the region where I live, during the development I learned a lot about the process and was able to improve my knowledge and skills, it was a challenge that was worth starting and finishing.
